Prosecutors said that Lamaar Matthews, age 30, and Valery Daniel, age 19, planned on stealing drugs from a Stoughton home one night in January 2021.

However, the duo broke into the wrong house and ended up in the child's bedroom at a home on Pratts Court, according to Stoughton Police.

Matthews and Daniel then started threatening the child with a knife and demanding drugs, the DA's Office reports. Both eventually ran off with the boy's cell phone, according to authorities.

Daniel, who was 17 at the time, was arrested only a short distance away, according to Stoughton Police. He later pleaded guilty to several youthful offender indictments and was sentenced to 30 months in the Norfolk County House of Correction, the DA's Office said.

Meanwhile, investigators identified Matthews as the second suspect from tracking the victim's phone through the "Find my iPhone" app. While the phone was found discarded in a wooded area, Matthews' fingerprints were found on the device. He was arrested at his Dorchester home in April, 2021, according to Stoughton Police.

Matthews was convicted on several charges, including two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of armed assault in a dwelling, the DA's Office reports.
